The Gouvernement du Québec announced a flexibility measure for concerned workers who want to interrupt or defer their parental leave in order to participate in the COVID-19 public health emergency efforts. Such workers will have an extra six months to receive benefits under the Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
Accordingly, recipients of parental, paternity and adoption benefits will be entitled to extend their benefit period from 52 to 78 weeks. As of today, this measure will apply to workers who have suspended or deferred their QPIP benefits in order to lend a hand to their current or another employer during the public health emergency.
